Neoscream's Painting Table: 22nd June 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to another blog post. An old friend of mine, Roxy, come down to Milton Keynes during the weekend due to the F1. We managed to meet up on Sunday evening and watched Spider-Man Home Coming. It was a great film that was made greater with Iron Man being in it.

Also, I received my prizes from the Beast of War. However, it was not what I expected which was the starter sets for Doctor Who Exterminate and Test of Honour. It was a huge bundle of Doctor Who stuff from Warlord Games (£233 worth of stuff) which you can see in the image to the right. WOW. But sadly there was no Test of Honour. I really do not know if I should contact Beasts of War about it or not?

Painting

This week I have managed to finish off the Necromancer, Banshee, Zombie Troll Shaman, a Tomb, two Tables, a Weapon Rack, four Barrels, a Throne, Well, a Sorcerer's Cabinet with a Book, a Bookcase and a temporary replacement for the Undead Dwarf King from Dungeon Saga as well as three ruins from Lord of the Rings, a fix up/rebased for my T'au (the new way to write Tau) Commander Wing Zero from Games Workshop (conversation based on Gundam Wing Zero from Gundam Wing) and a scales from Hero Quest. I also finished off the crystal on the Wizard's staff.

Dungeon Saga Characters

Dungeon Saga Terrain

Lord of the Rings Terrain

Commander Wing Zero (Kai)

I am currently painting the Cleric Hero, Blaine, a Bookcases and the spar Necromancer from Dungeon Saga and Chaser from Wargame Exclusive which will be used as a Cadre Fireblade for my T'au.

For the backlog, I was going to do some Kingdom Death Monster and Warmachine figures. However, I will live the two Warmachine figures until next week. For Kingdom Death Monster there is the female Intimacy character, Halloween Pinup Twilight Knight, Messenger First Story, Phoenix Armour Pinup and a Rebased Forsaken.

Well, that is the backlog finally done.

Gaming

Kingdom Death Monster at Simon's

On Friday evening myself, Richard and Darren H went down to Simon's for a game of Kingdom Death Monster. It was Lantern Year Seventeen. So damn close to the Watcher. We were going to hunt a level three White Lion until the group bottled out and decided to hunt a level two instead. During the hunt phase, we found a Lion Cub just before hitting the Overwhelming Darkness. We decided to kill it for the resources, plus it would most likely start the Showdown phase before we hit the Overwhelming Darkness. We ended up rolling for the Enraged mother. As I am writing this I realised we made a mistake. We forgot it was an Ambush. Opps. However it was too easy and it would not have done much, unless of VERY unlucky dice rolls. We regret not hunting a level three now, but with the way things were, a level three could have been deadly. Level Three Enraged Ambushing White Lion.

During the Settlement phase, we draw the Haunted event. Our original roll would have meant that we would not gain any endeavours and could not innovative either unless we excel our less experienced survivor. We decided to use their once in a lifetime re-roll. They ended up being Possessed.

We first spent an endeavour to innovation and choose Storyteller out of the ones we draw. We used two endeavours to use Storyteller, which boosted the Survivor Clark but both his arms ended up being broken. Luckily we do have Beds. However, we decided to use the last endeavour to make Leather so we could make another set of Leather Armour. We also built a Cat Gut Bow for our Blue Savior. With her current lineup (changing a Spear to a bow) the bow will have a ten square range. Sweet.

So now we are on Lantern Year eighteen. We were planning on playing this coming Friday, but Darren cannot do it. So we are plan on playing on ever the 4th or the 5th of August.

Kingdom Death Monster at Wargames Workshop MK

On Monday I went down to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Kingdom Death Monster. There was no Wai-Yin and we all dealt that we will see her again for Kingdom Death Monster as she has been very unresponsive. However, Roxy joined us for this game. It was Lantern Year Nine and we decided to hunt a level one Phoenix. This was the first time either of my groups has hunted a Phenox. It was a lot harsher than what we first thought. A bunch of the hit locations has a wound effect called "Rewind". It basically undoes the whole attack and moves the survivor five squares away if you had an Age Token on you. It did not help that it Ambushed us and it attacks twice with most of its attacks places an age token on the target. Sadly we lost a survivor, the one that Roxy was using which was my backup, Tharja. C'est la vie. Oh, and my main survivor, Marth, lost his genitals. But we did manage to defeat the Phoenix.

The Settlement event was Clinging Mist and we had Birth of Colours as a Story event too. With the six endeavours we have Innovated, Purified one of Adrian's survivors, active the Sauna Shrine to gain Strength tokens and armour and bread twice with Adrian's and Bob's characters as the main breeding pair can no longer bread. These newborns are more powerful than any in the past as the Innovation we got was Clan of Death. Clan of Death, Saga and Survival of the Fittest are an amazing combo.

The next game should be on the 31st of July.

HeroClix

On Thursday I went down to York House for some games of HeroClix. This week's (and at least next week’s) scenario was 'Teenage Kicks'. 400 points. It is time to find the most Kickass Teenage Supergroup. Six teams enter the arena in a battle to find the ultimate champions. All players will play each team at least once. Darren S supplied the teams and the teams are Runaways, Young Avengers, New Mutants, Teen Titans, Ravagers and Initiative. The image next to this is of the team lists.

On the first round, I was up against Adrian. I ended up with the Young Avengers team while Adrian ended up being the Ravagers team. I managed to win this game. It felt a little one sided. Also, Darren won his game against Michael.

On the second round, I was up against Darren. I ended up with the Ravagers team while Darren ended up being the Young Avengers team. The opposite of my last game. Like normal against Darren, I lost. I have a feeling that the balance between the two teams is off. Also, Michael won his game against his brother Adrian.

On the third and final round, I was up against Michael. I ended up with the Teen Titans team while Michael ended up being the Young Avengers team. Sadly I lost this game. Just could not hit them. Also, Adrian shockingly his game against Darren.

We will be continuing with this next week.

Future Games
  • On Saturday the 22nd of July, I should be going to Wargames Workshop MK for a Cardfight Vanguard Tournament.
  • On Monday the 24th of July, I will be going to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Malifaux.
  • On Thursday the 27th of July, I should be going to York House for some games of HeroClix.
  • On Monday the 31th of July, I should be going to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Kingdom Death Monster.

Well, that is it for this post. Until all are one with the Lantern-Spark.

Neoscream's Painting Table: 13th June 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to another blog post. The last couple of days I have been looking after my parents after their operations. Apart from my dad's operation being delayed by a day (which meant he was in overnight), everything has gone well. Sadly my dad is in a lot of pain, but that might because he is not used to being sick and weak.

I managed to sort out my drawer in my shed again. Tring to make room and organising them more as well as looking for figures I forgot about. I also did a ton of repair work on my Kingdon Death Monster Survivours as the foam trays turned out to be a BAD move as the glue was CRAP which causes the figures to brake MORE. Because of this, I have transferred the Survivours to the old plastic case a from Poundland.

Painting

This week I have managed to finish off both versions of Audrey, an A-Bomb Abomination and five Skinner Zombies Walkers all from Zombicide as well as four Treasure Chests, two Zombie Trolls and the four starting Heroes from Dungeon Saga.

Zombicide

Dungeon Saga

As I post this I realised I forgot to do the crystal on the Wizard's staff. I will sort that out and retake pictures of him in next week's post. I have also found I had made a mistake on my new painting system which meant that Zombicide stuff was MUCH higher on in the priority than it should have been. This means that the rest of the first wave of Skinners will be done at a much later date. Also, I found out why my Dungeon Saga set was so cheap. It came with two Necromancers and no undead Dwarf King. Beep. I have dug out a random Dwarf to use as the King for now (see him in the photo below) and I will keep an eye out for a much better figure in the future.

I am currently painting up the remaining villain characters and a table from Dungeon Saga.

This week's backlog, I have for you all some Kingdom Death Monster figures. There is Before the Wall, Adam, Anna, Paul, Snow, Twilight Knight, Aya and male Intimacy character.

Next week will be the last of the backlog and I will have for you all some more Kingdom Death Monster minutes and a couple of Warmachine miniatures too.

Gaming

Cardfight Vanguard and Future Card Buddyfight Causal Play

Due to a Magic the Gathering release, Cardfight Vanguard was pushed to Sunday. However, Shell did try to set up a Vanguard/Buddyfight tournament at the Toby Carvery at Shenley Church End for those who cannot make Sunday's tournament. The reason why I did not change my day off. Shell is the one who runs the who runs the Vanguard, Buddyfight and Force of Will tournaments and casual play at Wargames Workshop and is a part-time employee of the store. Sadly on Friday she that she had to work on Saturday. More to cover breaks and to cover staff setting up the Magic tournament. So it was changed from a Tournament to just casual play sadly. There was a go turn out, at least eleven of us by the time Shell turned up, which was around 3:30/4 PM.

I managed to trade for the GB8 Nova Grappler Stride and a second copy of the new Dimension Police G-Guardian.

I got a bunch of games with my updated Nova Grappler deck, even got to use a GB8 for the first time. I also got several games of Buddyfight in too. I really need to change my buddy from Red Ranger to Gold Ranger (OK that is not the card names).

Overall it was an enjoyable afternoon of card gaming.

Warhammer 40,000

Commander Wing Zero
I do plan on doing some major work to his as well as rebasing him to the
current 60mm base size for commanders instead of the 40mm base from
2nd edition.
On Monday I went down to Wargames Workshop MK like normal, but this time I was playing my second game of Warhammer 40k eighth edition. It was another 1,000 point game, but this time I was up against Bob. I had made several to the line-up which was:

  • Wing Zero - Commander (76) with 2 Plasma Rifles (11x2), Shield Generator (8) and Advanced Targeting System (8) = 114
  • Heavyarms - Commander (76) with 2 Burst Cannons (10x2), Missile Pods (24x2) and Marker Drone (10) = 154
  • Cadre Fireblade = 42
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x6). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x6). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x6). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 5 Tau Strike Team (8x5). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 43
  • 10 Pathfinders ((5+3)x10). Shas’ui with Pistol. One with Rail Rifle (22-3). Two with Ion Rifle ((7-3)x2). Plus, a Recon Drone (12), Pulse Accelerator (8) and Grav-inhibitor (8) = 135
  • 4 Crisis Battlesuits (42x4). One with 2 Fusion Blasters (21x2) and Drone Controller (5). Two with 2 Fusion Blasters (21x2) and Multi-Tracker (2). One with 2 Plasma Rifles (11x2) and Multi-Tracker (2). Plus 4 Gun Drones (8x4) = 359
=1,000

I decided to drop the Shield Drones as they were not as good as I remember. I added a Cadre Fireblade to boost the number of shots from Pulse weapons. I changed the Crisis Bodyguards to Crisis Battlesuits and swapped out their Advanced Targeting Systems for Multi-Tracker. I also upped the number of Pathfinders to ten with a second Ion Rifle. Please also notes, like before, the Striker units were armed with a mix of Pulse Rifles and Pulse Cabins based on what the figures have on them.

Bob decided to use his Necrons as he was using his Space Marine in his previous game. We played the "Secure and Control" scenario with the "Search and Destroy" deployment. It turned into my Strike Teams and Pathfinders lead by the Cadre Fireblade versus Bob's Scarabs, and my Crisis Battlesuits and Commanders versus the rest of Bob's army. The game ended on the sixth turn and I were left with two Fire Warriors (members of a Strike Team) left while Bob only had lost over half of his Scarabs and a couple of Warriors as everything resurrected.

I still need to work on my force and I have done a couple of adjustments based on stuff on YouTube. One change is to drop the special weapon on the Pathfinders and split them into two teams, as well as drop the number of Strike Teams, but up the number in each team. I have also picked up the rulebook (which you can see in the opening image) as it is back in stock and so I have access to advance rules and scenarios (as the core rules are free).

HeroClix

I could not make HeroClix on Thursday (today) as I was looking after my parents. Darren S decided to run a special scenario that will run for several weeks. Heroclix 'Teenage Kicks'. 400 points. It is time to find the most Kickass Teenage Supergroup. Six teams enter the arena in a battle to find the ultimate champions. All players will play each team at least once. Darren S supply the teams and the teams are Runaways, Young Avengers, New Mutants, Teen Titans, Ravagers and Initiative.

Future Games
  • On Friday the 14th of July, I will be going to Simon's for a game of Kingdom Death Monster.
  • On Monday the 17th of July, I will be going to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Kingdom Death Monster.
  • On Thursday the 20th of July, I should be going to York House for some games of HeroClix.

Well, that is it for this post. Until all are one with the Lantern-Spark.

Neoscream's Painting Table: 7th June 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to another blog post. Sorry about not posting last week. I have been playing the new Futurama Worlds of Tomorrow mobile game or busy painting when I should have been writing.

The first week has been a bit of a hectic, as I was taking care of both myself and my mum's cats as my parents had gone on a week holiday. During the time I sorted out my Tau stuff and managed to watch the new Transformers film.

If you have not heard, on Saturday Beasts of War revealed the winners of the UK Games Expo prizes. Ben started his Poke-rap of the winners and my username "Neoscream" was the first to be revealed. OMG. I won! However what of the UK Expo prizes did I win? They did not reveal in the video as there was something like twenty-seven prizes. But they were listed in the notes below the video. I had won the Warlord Games bundle which was the core games for Doctor Who Exterminate and Test of Honour. Sadly I already have Doctor Who Exterminate as I brought it at Salute, so I need to think of what to do with it. However, Test of Honour was a game I wanted to try out due to the Samurai theme.

Next week will be chaos for me. My Dad is having an operation to fix his Hernia on Monday and my Mum is having her cataracts removed on Tuesday so I need to take some time off work to care for them as they will not be able to look after each other for several days.

Painting

This week I have managed to finish off eleven more Tau Pathfinders and all three of the Tau Pathfinder special drones. As well as two double doors and eight single doors from Dungeon Saga. As I have mixed them up with my other Pathfinders, the photos below is of all of sixteen Tau Pathfinders I have painted so far.

Pathfinders Unit One

Pathfinders Unit Two

Pathfinder Drones

Doors

I am considering applying the snow effect to the other to drone. The only reason one had is is that I had to undercoat the base as it got stuck to the drone.

I have also redone my painting system. Let me just say that it was a complex spreadsheet, which has become an even more complex spreadsheet. I am currently painting up both versions of Audrey, an A-Bomb Abomination and three Walker Skinner Zombies from Zombicide.

As I did not do a post last week and I am wanting to get rid of the backlog, I am posting some Arcadia Quest and Zombicide stuff. For Arcadia Quest, there is Lydia, The Nameless, The Heartless and both versions of Chooloo.

And for Zombicide there are both versions of Maki, Dylan, and Lucius.

Next week will be some Kingdom Death Monster minutes.

Gaming

Warhammer 40,000 Eighth Edition

On Monday the 26th of June, I went down to Wargames Workshop MK like normal, but this time I was playing my first game of Warhammer 40k eighth edition. In fact, it is my first game of Warhammer 40k since University, not long after four edition was released. The Tau force I pieced together was:

  • Wing Zero - Commander (76) with 2 Plasma Rifles (11x2), Shield Generator (8) and Advanced Targeting System (8) = 76 +22+8+8 = 114
  • Heavyarms - Commander (76) with 2 Burst Cannons (10x2) and 2 Missile Pods (24x2) = 76 +20+48 = 144
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x5). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x5). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 6 Tau Strike Team (8x5). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 51
  • 5 Tau Strike Team (8x5). Shas’ui with Markerlight (3) = 43
  • 6 Pathfinders ((5+3)x6). Shas’ui with Pistol. One with Rail Rifle (22-3). One with Ion Rifle (7-3). Plus, a Recon Drone (12), Pulse Accelerator (8) and Grav-inhibitor (8) = 48+19+4+12+8+8 = 99
  • 4 Gun Drones (8x4), 6 Shield Drones (8x6) and 1 Marker Drone (10) = 32+48+10 = 90
  • 4 Crisis Bodyguards (45x4). One with 2 Fusion Blasters (21x2) and Drone Controller (5). Two with 2 Fusion Blasters (21x2) and Advanced Targeting System (8). One with 2 Plasma Rifles (11x2) and Advanced Targeting System (8). = 180+42+5+42 + 42+8+8+22+8 = 357
=1000

A couple of notes I must say. First, the Drones were split between the units and not a unit of them self. And second, the Striker units were armed with a mix of Pulse Rifles and Pulse Cabins based on what the figures have.

I was up against Matt who was using a Nurgle force. It was an enjoyable game, but sadly I lost.

There are a couple of issues. The "Disgustingly Resilient" ability is a real pain in the assessment for anyone to get past.

Also, the Psychic phase is quite harsh for forces without Psykers (like Tau). Each Psyker (from what I have been told) has at least one Deny the Witch (counter-power), the power Smite and at least one other Psychic power. Smite is basically an attack that deals damage that ignores toughness and armour (including ward saves). Smite destroyed my Crisis Battlesuits and I could not do anything about it. I believe (and others from the store) that you should be able to use Command Points to use Deny the Witch without a Psyker. Maybe Tau will get something when they finally get an eighth edition Codex. I have heard that they work with a psychic race, there are Kroot Psychics known as Shamans and the Tau have stolen anti-psychic tech from one of the Imperial Assassins groups (the anti-psychic ones, cannot remember the name). So there are ways the Tau can gain ways to combat Psykers.

Lastly, some of the simpler rules do cause problems in a WTF way. An example of this I saw on YouTube was a Vindicator Tank which has its main gun pointing out of the front that was hiding under a bridge was able to shot at a Large Tau Mech hiding behind a building as a REAR track pointing out from under the bridge was able to draw line of sight to a small part (like a foot) sticking out from behind the building.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed the game (except the Psychic phase) and I will play more games. In fact, I have one booked for the 10th of July with Bob.

Kingdom Death Monster

On Friday the 30th of June I went down to Simon's with Richard and Darren H for a game of Kingdom Death Monster. It was Lantern Year 16 and we were up against a Lonely Tree. As it was Lantern Year 16, the tree was level three. Wow, our first level three. In fact, I think it is the first level three that any of my groups have faced.

It was an interesting battle but in the end a bit too hard without any experience against the Lonely Tree. As we could just walk away, we did so. Sadly it just led to a wasted year.

The Settlement event meant we could not go off with Heavy gear on the next hunt (unless we lose all survival). Also with the innovation this Lantern Year, we picked one for the +1 Survival limit as the rest were useless at this late stage. We are now at Lantern Year 17. Wow. We are very close to the current end. I say current end as 1.5 will bring a new Nemesis Monster that will follow the Watcher, the Gold Smoke Knight. I might pause the campaign when we hit Lantern Year 20, to wait for the update set.

Frostgrave

On Monday the 3rd of July, I went down to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Frostgrave. This month's scenario was "The Library". Four of us turned up. To make the Library we used my old Space Hulk stuff and my Dungeon Saga and old HeroQuest terrain with Bob's "The Horus Heresy Burning of Prospero" floor plans. I forgot to state last time we introduced some house rules on experience. Instead of gaining ten experience for casting a spell, the wizard gain experience equal to the difficulty of the spell. Also on a critical miss with a spell (roll a natural one) the Wizard would take max failure damage and on a critical success (roll a natural twenty) would heal one health.

We all made it off with three treasures each. But, there was a bit of a fight towards the end.

I managed to extend the game a little by delaying. The last treasure carrier on the field was mine. She could have left during the Soldier phase. However as she was within command range of my Summoner and there were no nearby threats, I decided to wait and try to get one last spell off. Bob's Wizard acted first and attempted to cast a spell which he needed to move to the open for. His Wizard critical failed the spell and was reduced to one health. An opportunity opened up. I activated the treasure carrier with my Summoner, but not as a group activation. My Summoner moved to see Bob's Wizard and cast Steal Health on his Wizard and succeed, knocking out his Wizard. Then I moved my treasure carrier off the field which ended the game. Wow. That was a lot of experience.

I did not gain much gold and the only real highlight of the treasures gain was a Candle of Summoning. Sadly I lost a Treasure Hunter and a Thug will have to skip a game. However, my Summoner went up three levels. I improved she a Health and the spells Summon Daemon and Telekinesis.

There will be not Frostgrave next month and the next one might be a day later than normal.

HeroClix

There was no HeroClix on Thursday the 29th of June. But we did meet up on Thursday the 6th of July for some games at York House. This week's scenario was "Heroclix 2.0". 500 points, no figure above 200pts. Your team must contain at least 1 figure which does not have a standard base (eg peanut, 3x3 etc) or if it does not have the standard damage symbol (eg tiny, giant etc).

I decided to try out the Iron Man I used last time again. This time using the missing flight symbol. I also decided to use some of the new figures I pulled from Marvel What If. A new set that just came out which I brought a brick of. For those who do not know. A brick is a bundle of ten booster packs and each boost contains five random figures (like in TCGs). My team ended up being:

Goliath (066 Marvel Avengers Assemble) 98
Iron Man (053 Marvel Avengers/ Defenders War) 165
Scarlet Centurion (046 Marvel What If) 140
Iron Punisher (023 Marvel What If) 100
=503 points

Side Bench
Hawkeye (002 Marvel Avengers Assemble)

On the first round, I was up against Adrian who was using a non-themed team as he grabbed the wrong figures. It was a tighter fight than what I first thought, but I lost like I was thinking was happening. Also, Darren S won his game against Michael.

On the second round, I was up against Michael who was using a Defenders themed team. I managed to win this game without losing a figure. Also, Adrian won his game against Darren.

On the third and final round, I was up against Darren who was using a Skeleton Craw themed team. Somehow I managed to win with only Iron Man left standing. Darren's dice rolls were shit so that is how I somehow managed to win. Also, Adrian won his game against Michael.

There will be no HeroClix next week as I am looking after my parents.

Future Games

  • On Saturday the 8th of July, I will be going to Toby Carvery for either a Cardfight Vanguard or Future Card Buddyfight tournament.
  • On Monday the 10th of July, I will be going to Wargames Workshop MK for a game of Warhammer 40k with Bob.
  • On Monday the 17th of July, I will be going to Wargames Workshop MK for hopefully a game of Kingdom Death Monster.

Well, that is it for this post. Until all are one with the Lantern-Spark.
